The Late Middle Ages

There are many similarities between the black death plague and the covid 19 pandemic; some symptoms were the same, such as fever and chills, extreme weakness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. They were both considered pandemics and had a high mortality rate. Black Death infection and mortality rates were much higher than covid, and on the other hand, covid is a human disease, while the ‘black death” affected humans and other animals as well. We can compare both pandemics in some aspects but not in all of them. Covid had much lower mortality and infection rates as well. According to history and the sources from class, there are many ideas to keep in mind; learning about the past is the best way to prevent more disasters like pandemics from happening. Although health measures like quarantines and social isolation that governments have been enforcing since the black plague are inconvenient, historically, they have proven to be the most effective way to prevent epidemics.
