For the first source, I chose “Reasons in Proof of the Existence of God, 1270.” this was a fascinating article for me because it made me think about God’s existence in different ways; in the text, Thomas Aquinas argues that the presence of God can be demonstrated in five different ways, primarily by observing movement in the world as evidence for God, the "Immovable Mover," and identifying God as the cause of everything, recognizing that natural beings do not possess intelligence without it being given to them by God, since creation is impermanent, therefore, proving God exists; recognizing that intelligence cannot be provided to natural beings without it being granted by God. After defending humanity's natural ability to perceive God, Thomas also argued for protecting the image of God as the all-powerful being he is. The other source I chose was Innocent III: Sermon for the Resurrection of the Lord. They mention the resurrection of Jesus as a defining moment in the history of Christianity, which I find interesting. In the gospels, Jesus is said to be the Son of God because he was executed and resurrected. According to Pope Innocent III, "Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices so that they might go and anoint Jesus. Since we are encouraged to follow these women's example spiritually, we should first examine their moral conduct: what spices they bought, who sold them to them and at what price, what happened in the end, and how they anointed Jesus. This is a fascinating source that we should really look into more deeply.
